The Latino Cultural Center will be en fuego, que no carnal....Chale, pues Tu Sabes.....

EL CHUCO Y LA CHE is a comically poetic homage to the letter 'Ch' of the Chicano/Spanish alphabet. Told through the voice of a sharp-witted, zoot-suited pachuco, EL CHUCO Y LA CHE is a hilarious trip through his memories of a bi-cultural and bilingual barrio filled with colorful characters and customs. From childhood chomping on chupones to El Chapulin Colorado to Cheech & Chong and El Chupacabras, the 'Ch' related alliteration abounds, providing a rollicking spectrum of the Chicano/Latino experience.

Written and performed by Rodney Garza (a member of Teatro Campesino's 25th Anniversary tour of ZOOT SUIT), this one-person show is part stand-up comedy, part performance poetry and part rasquachi teatro. This combination results in the highest form of Chicano art, “The Art of Spreading Chisme”.

The United Lowrider's Association will be adding event more culture to the opening night festivities at the Latino Cultural Center.  Starting at 6pm they will be showcasing some of the finest lowrider cars and bikes in the state of Texas. For over 35 years Lowriding has been a culture and lifestyle that has drawn it's supporters and detractors but the one thing that is clear is that the cars and bikes are legitimate works of art. Don't believe me then take a trip to the Smithsonian Museum where there is an exhibit on lowriding which features the legendary Gypsy Rose, THE only Lowrider in the Smithsonian.

The show for Friday is almost completely sold out but there will be a number of tickets released for the stand by list, oh you want to get on the stand by list....Un Momento por favor.....just send an email to this address and you might get in on opening night! rsvp@caramiatheatre.net

There will be a live DJ providing music before and after the show along with a ZOOT SUIT contest with prize money being donated by Robert's Ready to Wear. The contest will be hosted by KNON's Frances Rizo, host of Otro Punto De Vista, and will be judged by Domingo Garcia, who has as provided a sponsorship of this play, along with Caria Mia's own Delilah and of course since I am from the Hometown of the Zoot Suit, EL PASO... I have also been asked to judge the contest.

This promises to be a great night and I will make sure we have plenty of pictures for you to see in case you missed the show.
