The 2008 Dodge Ram presents The Tejano Music National Convention Aug. 15-17th in DALLAS

Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert along with more than 20 Tejano music stars, former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Tony Casillas, and other city leaders came together on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, to announce the the Tejano National Music Convention is coming to Dallas.  The 2008 Dodge Ram will be the proud presenting sponsor of the Tejano Music National Convention, the largest gathering of Tejano music professionals, personalities and enthusiasts in the country.

David Chavez, founder and executive producer of the convention, stated, “I can think of no better city than Dallas to host our Texas homecoming. The Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau are to be commended for their enthusiasm and their ability to galvanize citywide support for this event with musical roots in Texas.”

Mayor Tom Leppert also recognized the impact that the convention would have on Dallas and made it a point to let David Chavez know that Dallas will fight to keep the convention in Dallas for the next several years.

The Tejano Artists in attendance included Tejano Legends Ruben Ramos, Robert Pulido, Joe Posada, along with The Garcia Brothers, Michael Salgado, Jay Perez, Shelly Lares, Elida and many more.

Every artist was excited that the convention was going to be held in Texas and especially in Dallas. Jay stated, "I think its a wonder and positive move for Tejano fans. There's no sense in doing this in Vegas or anywhere else, keep it in Texas! It's a big State and it will always support Tejano."

Michael Salgado also shared the sentiment, " Well I think it's a great thing since most of the bands are based out of Texas. I think that its gonna be a great show, Dallas is a great city for Tejano music so I think this is the ideal place for the convention."

The artists also expressed hope that the convention might show Radio Companies that they were wrong or as Jay put it, "SELLOUTS" for flipping so many of the Tejano radio stations away from Tejano.

The 2008 Dodge Ram presents the Tejano Music National Convention—will take place Aug. 15-17— is one of several prominent Hispanic events that will come to Dallas thanks to an innovative partnership between the GDHCC and the DCVB.
