"Our interview with up and coming SPACE DESIGNER, Laura Layci Rodriguez, whom has discovered a niche at creating space in the homes and offices throughout Dallas/Ft. Worth"
SPACE- The final frontier. . These are the voyages of the. . . OPPS, I was just trying to figure out how to kick this column off.
SPACE-Everybody needs it, Everybody wants it and everybody is always trying to redesign it. So, with the influx of Home Improvement shows all over the place, what about the person that is just wanting more SPACE?
Pues, I went all the way to CUBA to track down a young lady who has mastered the art of SPACE. Okay, didn't actually go to CUBA, I just went to Gloria's and sat down with the owner of LAYCI'S CREATIONS to discuss SPACE.
Dallas Vida: What interested you in creating SPACE for others and design?
Layci: I realized over the many years of wanting to do this for living that in my very own surroundings I would always pay more attention to detail than anyone else around me in my family. My mother inspires me daily to do what I do as she is the same exact way with details. When I see a home, a room or office, ideas start coming to me very fast on how to better organize any situation to make it more functional for someone to utilize. My vision allows me to foresee how easier life can be for someone and their environment.
DV: How did your childhood and upbringing influence your style?
Layci: Growing up in Cuba inspired me to be creative. In Cuba there are not a lot of outlets, stores and available materials in order to accomplish what we do here in United States and I believe through that or the lack thereof, I was able and somewhat forced to be creative with the little I had to utilize. My family influenced me quite a bit to doing the best I could in whichever career I chose.
DV: What inspires you with your work?
Layci: My inspiration comes from looking forward to that next space design job. I get anxious at the very thought of discovering new territories and saving someone from their unorganized despair. I enjoy telling my clients to remember this picture and come back when it's ready, cause you will not recognized your own space.
DV: What college or any other professional school did you attend?
Layci: I attended Law School in Cienfuegos, Cuba and other regular education growing up but this chosen direction has been all from the heart with no true formal education in design or creative. I have my education and my passion for my work to thank for reaching this far.
Layci: Layciscreations.com was a concept that I came up with in order to pinpoint what my vision is and how I want to get this message across to my prospective client base. Most people are well aware of interior designers but less knowledgeable of space designers and creations like the service I provide. My clients can expect me to carefully evaluate their needs and not try to "sell" them more than what is actually necessary for that job completion. They can expect 100% honesty in material pricing as I provide all pricing to each client without price gouging them on overhead. My clients can expect that each job will be completed when said and no charges for overtime, extra added features, etc.. I take each job as a project and when a quote is given, it stays. I am a stickler for timelines and very committed to each job and respect the time of my clients. That is my main mission, keep the customers coming back for more and more.
DV: What are some things you really enjoy about your job?
Layci: I enjoy the creativity and the liberty of taking something to something greater. I rarely take things from nothing to something, it usually involves something already in place and from there I am able to make sense with space creativity and design. I enjoy the satisfaction of the customer and their reaction to the finished product, that's what drives me, the clients.
